BREEDING PHILOSOPHY
At Lockhard, we take care to breed properly in
order to keep our dogs and pups in top health. Lockhard dogs have
certified hips and all vaccinations. These same requirements apply
to dogs that breed with ours. Please see our requirements
list.

Our Breeding Plan
We seem to have found the right combination of
breeding for our Lockhard German Shorthaired Pointers. Lockhard's
Miss Millie and Ivory's Big Oaks Sam (Tommy, Jr.)
have produced some fabulous pups. We have only had positive feedback
from puppy owners. Many of these dogs hunt at the same club as I,
and recognizing them in the field gives me great satisfaction. I
am pleased to hunt behind them or follow and watch them hunt in
the field. Nothing gives me more satisfaction than seeing them mature
into great hunting dogs.
The owner of Tommy, Jr., has indicated that he
may not be available for stud after this year (2007). We anticipate
a last mating with Millie and Tommy, Jr.
this year. The stud for her next breeding has already been chosen.
In looking at the lines, I am positive this new mating will produce
the even-tempered, intense hunting dog to continue the line that
Lockhard takes pride in producing.
Don’t think for a minute that the Ivory's Big Oaks
Sam lines are gone. Let’s talk about Lockhard’s
Maude. Ivory's Big Oaks Sam is her daddy.
Maudie has the style and mannerisms that we're looking for! Seeing
the proven litter that Gus has produced, Lockhard's Gustav
will be introduced as Maude's stud. Gus
has matured into a fine bird dog, and you should hear his owners
talk about his presence around the house. To boot, he is the best
looking Shorthair in the country. I can’t believe I sold that
dog! Maude's first breeding will be shortly after
her second birthday, after we confirm that her hips are lined up
just right!

Lockhard's Miss Millie

Lockhard's Miss Millie is energetic,
focused, and has a lot of natural talent. She has an intense point,
is steady to flush, and retrieves naturally. She is diminuative,
but a tomboy.
Millie's hips are rated good by OFA.

Lockhard's Miss Maude

Lockhard's Miss Maude, with bloodlines
from Ivory's Big Oaks Sam (Tommy, Jr.), Big
Oaks Snap-E-Tom and Tonelli's
Rising Sun joined our family of Lockhard dogs at the
beginning of July 2007. In a short while, she is proving to have
a great future as a bird and family dog. Her pedigree will be a
great addition to our breeding plan.

Lockhard's Gustav

Lockhard's Gustav is Buster Lockhard's
son. He has a beautiful physique and markings, great carriage and
style, and a well-mannered disposition. He has matured into a great
field dog and is a loving, obedient family dog. Please contact

Lockhard's Rosco

Rosco is now in his third duck season and has made
Lance a very happy man. It is hard trying to maintain a high energy
dog, but Lance is doing a great job with Rosco. I hear if you shoot
a double, it only takes one retrieve, and Rosco is back looking
for the next go around (2 photos).
Black labrador retriever, Lockhard's Rosco,
will be available for stud after being OFA-rated. Preliminary x-rays
were taken in January 2006 showing hips and elbows in great shape.
Rosco is a natural athlete with lots of energy
and desire. He has a beautiful physique, great poise and carriage,
and a gentle, loving disposition. Now in his third duck season,
Rosco is proving to be an awesome duck and pheasant dog.
